Mrs. Cook is my name and gym is my game!
I am very excited to start my 16th year as the Physical Education teacher at St. Agnes Cathedral School where every time you come to the gym you are expected to:
1. HAVE FUN 2. BE NICE TO EVERYONE
3. INCLUDE ALL CLASSMATES 4. GET SOME EXERCISE!
Since my childhood, athletics and physical education have been a part of my life. I attended St. Joseph's School in Garden City and then went on to Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset. I ran in the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships and was the founding member of the Our Lady of Mercy track team. In order to fulfill my desire to become a Physical Education teacher, I achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Physical Education & Dance from Longwood University(VA) which will become famous this autumn as the host of the 2016 Vice Presidential Debate. I also swam in the Virginia State College Swim Championships while at Longwood.
Upon graduation, I returned to New York to start my Physical Education career working at several public and parochial schools and also pursuing my Masters degree in Exercise Physiology, the study of the action of exercise on people. I also got married to my husband, Tom. ❤️
With my new degree in hand, I decided to try to teach adults how to become and stay physically fit. I worked as an Exercise Physiologist in NYC at the Executive Fitness Center at The World Trade Center and later at Cardio-Fitness, Downtown.
Working with adults was challenging but my heart was with children; first with my own family and eventually with all the children of St. Agnes. Mr. Cook and I have four children, all graduates of St. Agnes. All grown up now, the three boys are a FDNY firefighter, a 2nd Lieutenant in the USMC and a student-chef at the Culinary Institute of America, and their sister is a NCAA Head Women's Basketball Coach. With my youngest child in the Kindergarten, the opportunity to teach at St Agnes opened and I couldn't resist.
St. Agnes' physical education program has something special for everyone! We learn skills and rules of a variety of sports and have a number of special events during the year including Red, White & Do Days, Sports Nights & Field Days for the entire school. Our school sports programs have exploded into soccer, basketball, cheerleading, volleyball, basketball, lacrosse, softball & baseball.
