    • St. Agnes Middle School - Where Students Thrive!

Thank you for your interest in our Middle School. In grades 6-8 the students are eligible to achieve honor roll. Students in Grades 7 and 8 are eligible to be inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. The girls’ uniform changes from a jumper to a skirt. The students take end-of-the-year finals. The religion curriculum highlights the importance of service and many of the students join the school’s Service Club.

Middle School Sports begin in Grade 7. Students in grades 7-8 may try out for the following sports:
      • Fall: Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Girls Volleyball, Boys and Girls Cross Country Track
      • Winter: Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Girls Cheerleading, and Bowling
      • Spring: Boys Lacrosse, Girls Lacrosse, Boys Baseball, and Girls Softball, Boys and Girls Golf

The Middle School students in grades 7 and 8 celebrate Green and Gold, a sports night event between the two grades.

Students in grades 7 and 8 can be part of the school’s Drama Club. Each spring a high school quality musical production is performed.
    • 6th Grade Math

The sixth -grade math program covers a variety of topics that students have not seen before. Their arithmetic skills need to be sharp since arithmetic is no longer taught at this level. There is a chapter on decimals integrated with other topics and on fractions which assumes a basic understanding of fractions using all four operations. The students delve into the world of positive and negative numbers and a unit on statistics with real world applications. The course includes algebra with solving equations and graphing lines on the coordinate plane. Geometry and probability are also part of the curriculum. Problem solving is an integral part of each unit.
    • 7th Grade Math

The seventh-grade math course is the first year of a two-year course, culminating with students taking the Algebra I Regents at the end of the 8th grade. This first-year course focuses not only on the concepts and skills relevant to the 7th grade New York State Math curriculum, but also deeply delves into advanced topics in algebra.
    • 8th Grade

      NYS Algebra 1 Regents
This course formalizes and extends the mathematics that students learned in the 6th and 7th grades. Algebra 1 deepens the students’ understanding of variables, algebraic expressions, equations, inequalities, and functions. Students will develop the ability to explore and solve real-world application problems and demonstrate the appropriate use of graphing calculators. This course lays the foundation for mathematical literacy that will help students in every subsequent course in mathematics.

      NYS Earth Science (Physical Setting)
Regents Earth Science is an interdisciplinary course that builds on the background in science acquired in the earlier grades. Matter, energy, space, and time are put into perspective through an inquiry-centered study of the student's environment on Earth. Astronomy, geology, meteorology, and oceanography are strongly interwoven throughout the course. Laboratory activities form the core of this curriculum. Successful completion of laboratory assignments is required for admission to the Regents Examination. All students take the Physical Setting/Earth Science Regents exam at the conclusion of the course.

      Graduation Festivities
June of 8th grade is a very special time at St. Agnes Cathedral School. The 8th Graders and their parents have much to celebrate. Many have been in the school since kindergarten. A week-long celebration is held for our 8th Graders which begins with a special Mass and Communion Breakfast, followed by the distribution of their yearbooks. A graduation field trip to Great Adventure in New Jersey is conducted, a spectacular graduation dance and an awards night and graduation are held in our beautiful Cathedral. It truly is a week which honors and highlights the achievements of the 8th grade students.
