Mrs. Cecilia St. John

I have always been passionate about education.
When I decided to attend Molloy College to become a teacher, my family and friends were not surprised.

After graduating from Molloy with a bachelor's degree in history/elementary education N-6, I began my teaching career at Saint Anastasia School in Douglaston. There, I taught reading, language arts, and social studies to grades 4, 6, 7, and 8. The next few years were spent raising my children and attending graduate school at Adelphi University in Garden City to earn a master's degree in secondary education/social studies 7-12.

I returned to teaching in 1999 at Saint Thomas the Apostle School in West Hempstead. I taught remedial reading for one year and a self-contained 2nd grade class for another year. I began my third year at Saint Thomas as the reading, language arts, and social studies teacher for grade 8.

Teaching, as well as serving on various leadership committees at Saint Thomas, prompted me to return to Adelphi University to earn a master's degree in school administration. In May 2009 I earned a second master's degree in Educational Leadership and Technology, completing the course work necessary to obtain the New York State School Building Leader (SBL) Certificate. I graduated number one in the program and received the Dean's Award.

From September 2009 to August 2016, I was principal of Saint Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay. As principal of Saint Dominic Elementary School, new academic and after school programs were implemented, including the Wilson Fundations Program and a STEM Partnership with a local organization.

My experiences as a principal, teacher, wife, and mother of children who attended Catholic school, bring me to Saint Agnes Cathedral School. I am eager to continue and advance Saint Agnes’ mission of being People of Action: Accepting Christ Today In One Another, through integrating the Gospel message into every subject taught and utilizing technology of the 21st century.

I am thrilled to be a part of Saint Agnes Cathedral School and Parish and look forward to getting to know each and every one of you!
